Jai Malhotra is a senior at Riverdale Country School in The Bronx, New York. He discovered microfinance by working with Zawadi By Youth, the Kiva lending club at his high school. He was inspired by Zawadi’s work in empowering unbanked female entrepreneurs around the world, and realized that microfinance would enable him to combat economic inequality on a global scale. Throughout his high school career, he has gained extensive experience in microfinance outside of Zawadi. As a rising Junior, Jai interned at Entitled Solutions, a microfinance organization that provides financial, health, and government benefits to the workforce in India. As an intern, he created a benchmarking system for Entitled, which helped them to refine their market strategy and gain more funding. This year, Jai is serving as a Co-President of Zawadi By Youth, which — under his leadership — has been ranked as the #1 Kiva youth lending group in the world for the first time. He hopes to foster connections with other high schoolers interested in using microfinance to make a large-scale impact at the NHSMC, while bringing in experts in the microfinance industry to educate our members.
